He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1984 and served in Cairo, Riyadh and Maputo before moving to Embassy of India, Tokyo. His other diplomatic assignments were in Amman and Paris before he took over as Deputy Chief of Mission at Embassy of India, Riyadh and subsequently as Deputy Chief of Mission in Brasilia. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador of India to Morocco, he served as Joint Secretary at Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi from 09/2009 to 06/2012.
